Volunteers needed for Mecklenburg County’s Adult Services Scam Jam, an event designed to help older adults and residents learn how to recognize, avoid, and report scams.

With speakers from the U.S. Department of Justice, North Carolina Department of Justice, North Carolina Department of Insurance, and the Social Security Administration, the event brings trusted experts together to strengthen community safety. Volunteers help create a welcoming, organized, and accessible experience for all attendees.

Jobs include but not limited to:

Greet and check in attendees as they arrive at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Center.

Guide participants to seating, speaker areas, and resource tables, assist with accessibility needs.

Monitor event spaces to ensure a safe, comfortable environment.

Assist with lunch distribution.

Help with setup and cleanup, including preparing registration tables, organizing handouts, and resetting the space after the event.

This event will involve cleaning up and caring for the Mint Hill Veterans Park rain garden by removing invasive plants and mulching! We'll teach you how to identify non native and invasive species and provide all the equipment needed for maintenance. 

Parking: The address for this event is the location of the closest parking lot to the rain garden. Please park in the gravel lot at 8920 Fairview Rd.

What to Bring: To limit single-use plastic, please bring a filled reusable water bottle. 

What to Wear: All volunteers will be provided with work gloves, but feel free to bring your own if you'd like! All supplies needed for garden maintenance will be provided. We recommend wearing closed-toe shoes and long pants to this event.

Volunteer: Earth Day Stream Cleanup and Storm Drain Marking

Stream cleanups involve removing litter from the stream and surrounding areas to improve water quality and wildlife habitat! Storm Drain Marking involves driving to a secondary location and gluing a small placard to the storm drain in the area. During Storm Drain Marking, we will be using as app called Quick Captures to log the drains we mark. You can choose which activity you'd like to participate in!

Parking: Parking is available in the parallel spots beside the greenway entrance or in the Target parking deck. l.You can meet staff at the check-in table in front of the Greenway entrance, right next to the Cook Out parking lot, to Check in and receive supplies and instructions. 

What to Bring: To limit single-use plastic, please bring a filled reusable water bottle. 

What to Wear: Supplies such as hip waders and grabbers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, but we will bring as many as we can. All volunteers will be provided with gloves and trash bags. Feel free to bring your own gloves and boots if you’d like! We recommend wearing closed-toe shoes and long pants to this event. We will aslo be providing all supplies need for Storm drain marking
