Who We Are
Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services promotes self-reliance, self-sufficiency, and works to prevent abuse, neglect, dependency and exploitation of vulnerable individuals, children and their families. Our mission is to strengthen families and communities through a safety-net of services, collaborations and hope. Our vision is to define and cultivate an organizational culture that is more compassionate and understanding toward each other and our clients.
What We Do
For more than one hundred years, the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services has been dedicated to protecting children and families, preventing clients from slipping into poverty, and evolving with the needs of the community.
“Safety-net” services include federal, and state funded mandated programs and services including (but are not limited to) Food & Nutrition, Medicaid, Work First, Transportation, Senior Nutrition, Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services and Adoption, Emergency Assistance, Child Care, community social work, clinical consultation, housing, voter registration, burial of unclaimed bodies, and staffing crisis shelters as needed.
