The Big Spring Clean takes place on the final day of Creek Week, where hundreds of volunteers gather at sites around Mecklenburg County to remove as much litter from our creeks as we can! The Big Spring Clean 2026 will take place on March 28th, 9 AM- 12 PM.
Parking: Street parking is available along Masonic Drive. We recommend carpooling if possible. This site is hosted by the Merry Oaks Neighborhood Association. You can meet them near the Briar Creek Greenway entrance on Masonic to check in and to receive supplies and instructions.
What to Bring: To limit single-use plastic, please bring a filled reusable water bottle.
What to Wear: This site will be cleaning the stream banks and flood plain around Briar Creek. No hip waders will be supplied. Grabbers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, but we will bring as many as we can. All volunteers will be provided with gloves and trash bags. Feel free to bring your own gloves and boots if you’d like! We recommend wearing closed-toe shoes and long pants to this event.
Details regarding weather or cancellations will be sent on 3/27/2026. To see other available locations, visit The Big Spring Clean webpage.
